It’s 2026: Time to Say Goodbye To Four Design Trends

January 5, 2025

As we begin 2026, there are a few trends that have been popular that we hope will subside this year. For those who have followed us for a while, you know we don’t really subscribe to trends. However, for those that do, please pass on these!

1. White Oak Overload

White oak everywhere has overstayed its welcome. White oak is a beautiful wood. However, there is such a thing as too much. Mixed woods feel more authentic and lived in. Living in a white oak box isn’t the goal. Though, having said that, those who have lived with very dark wood floors would appreciate how forgiving a lighter wood is on the floor!

2. Farmhouse Décor

Next is farm house décor. Unless you actually live in a farm house or rural property, this trend has far outlived its time. The need to insert shiplap, barn board and other farm house decor in urban and suburban homes has never been something we’ve been fond of. Your interior should not be completely incongruous with your architecture.

3. White Walls

Though there is something lovely and fresh about a white wall in the right space, plain white walls have also had their day. Even though Pantone’s colour of the year for 2026 is cloud white, I think a little colour is welcome in your home, particularly in a cold climate. Most people head to white walls out of fear. It’s just paint!

4. All Curves All The Time

I love a curvy piece of furniture as much as the next person. However, what I don’t love is a room that only has curvy furniture. Thoughtfully mixing shapes is far more interesting than a homogeneous room of curves.

Ultimately, whether something is trending or not, doesn’t make it the right choice. What works in your space depends on your particular taste, needs, and the architecture and location of your home. Here at Yassein Interiors, we strive to make our clients’ homes feel authentic, unique, and truly theirs. A personalized space is always the way to go.
